An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) Darla Hood was a child actress from the 1930s to the 1970s. She started making "Our Gang" comedies when she was four years old, and she appeared in many of them as "Darla", who was the object of Alfalfa's affections. She was the most famous of the Our Gang female actresses. She was also in The Bohemian Girl (with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy). Her post Our Gang career was troubled. She became a singer and a sort of ventriloquist, but only had a few roles on TV and in commercials, and her only real movie role was as the secretary in the 1959 Vincent Price film, "The Bat". She had 5 children by two husbands. In 1979 she filmed "The Little Rascals' Christmas Special" for TV, but she had recently had an appendectomy, and she was given a transfusion which gave her hepatitis, and she died before that TV special aired. She was just 47 years old. Important Added Info: Note that there are the remnants of a paper snipe on the back of the still. Someone penciled in "1935" on the back of the still, and it clearly is a vintage still, and it likely is from 1935. The still code "HRPKX559" is in the lower right. Darla Hood did not star in "Our Gang" movies until 1936, but this still certainly could have been produced the year before, and she made six "Our Gang" movies in 1936. It seems quite likely this still is from the 1936 "Our Gang" short, "Pay As You Exit". If anyone knows which "Our Gang" movies this still is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. There is a tiny scratch on the left side of Hood's face, just below her eye, but otherwise, the still is in pretty good condition! Learn More about condition grades
