An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Three Smart Boys, the 1937 Gordon Douglas Our Gang juvenile slapstick comedy short (produced by Hal Roach; one of the better of the series, with the boys wanting to get out of school by faking that they have measles, so they put ink spots on their faces and go to a doctor, but he is actually a veterinarian, and while Buckwheat is being examined, a chimp patient comes out of the room, and of course, the kids think Buckwheat was transformed by a monkey serum!) starring Sidney Bracey, Nora Cecil, Shirley Coates, Jack Egan, Darla Hood, Darwood Kaye, Rosina Lawrence, Eugene 'Porky' Lee, George 'Spanky' McFarland (billed as "Featuring Spanky McFarland"), Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer, and Billie 'Buckwheat' Thomas NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that almost all Our Gang first release one-sheets are extremely rare. But the ones from the sound movies of the 1930s are far more rare than those from the silent movies of the 1920s (although the silent ones are themselves quite rare!). The likely reason for this is that in the 1920s, many movies were short subjects (only one or two reels), so most theaters probably exhibited posters from several of the ones they were showing, including probably the Our Gangs, which were quite popular. But in the middle 1930s, just about all movies were feature length, and movies showed either one or two features, and they likely didn't display posters for the shorts they were showing, which would likely explain the unbelievable rarity of 1930s Our Gang one-sheets! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. It seems likely that the poster is faded slightly, because what was likely once red is more of a pink color. The poster had some small tears and tiny bits of paper loss in the top horizontal fold and tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, with a pair of staple holes in each corner. Otherwise, the poster was in nice condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed many years ago, and some restoration paint was put on part of the left of the top horizontal fold (most noticeable in the top of the first "E" of "THREE", and it is likely that the color of the top of that "E" is the color the poster originally was, but that the rest of the title has turned to a more pink color, so it is now noticeable. The new owner could either choose to have that portion of the "E" colored to match the rest of the title, or they could have the entire title colored to match the top of the "E", or of course, they could leave it as it is!
