Date Sold 8/18/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, the classic 1954 Alfred Hitchcock (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) thriller ("The master of suspense brings you his masterpiece!"; "Based on the short story by Cornell Woolrich"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a man who breaks his leg and is forced to stay at his home until he's better; during this time he observes his neighbors and does some voyeuristic detective work) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; as Jeff), Grace Kelly (as Lisa), Wendell Corey (as Detective Lt. Doyle), Thelma Ritter (as Stella), Raymond Burr (as Lars Thorwald), Judith Evelyn (as Miss Lonelyhearts), Georgine Darcy (as Miss Torso), Jesslyn Fax (as Miss Hearing Aid), Rand Harper, Havis Davenport (Harper and Davenport played the "newlyweds"), and Ross Bagdasarian (as the "Songwriter"). Note that Raymond Burr had appeared in movies for seven years before this, but always had minor roles, usually playing the "heavy". It would be three more years before his big break in 1957, when he became TV's "Perry Mason"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster COULD be rolled, but we feel that would be a giant mistake, because doing so would almost surely "bring back" the folds, and it has been expertly restored so that the folds don't show (see below). Therefore, we will only send this poster in a large flat package, and please bear that expense in mind before placing a bid on this great poster. A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the defects described below, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. The restoration was done really well, and the poster displays really well! Condition: very good. The poster was gel backed (see above). This particular poster had three extra horizontal folds, each above the regular horizontal folds. There was a 4" horizontal tear in the lower left border, extending into Stewart's hand, and that once had tape on the back. There were diagonal creases at the left end of the middle horizontal fold, extending into the image. There were some small tears in all the borders, with some creases and scuffs scattered throughout the image. There was tape on the back of each corner. The poster was in "good to very good" condition prior to restoration. The poster was gel backed by a talented professional and expert restoration was performed to the above defects. The poster looks fantastic (although you can see slight signs of the restoration when you look close up), but best of all, it still completely looks and feels like an unrestored poster!
