An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Anna Christie, the 1930 Clarence Brown (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic family relationship melodrama ("A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer All-Talking Picture"; "Adapted by Frances Marion from Eugene O'Neill's play 'Anna Christie'"; about a 20 year old woman who was abandoned by her father when she was 5; he is a rough sailor, and she comes to live with him, and she can't bear to tell him that she spent the last 2 years as a prostitute; she falls in love with a young sailor who doesn't know about her past either, and she finally decides that she must tell both her father and the man she loves the truth) starring Greta Garbo (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Anna Christie; "Her first talking picture!"; "Her greatest dramatic triumph!"), Charles Bickford, George F. Marion, Marie Dressler, James T. Mack, and William Russell. Note that this was Garbo's first sound movie, and it was advertised with the tagline "Garbo talks!" Note that this was a remake of the 1923 silent movie starring Blanche Sweet.

Important Added Info: Note that this still is undated, but we think it is quite likely that it is a 1950s re-release (probably from 1956 or after, possibly from when the movie was sold to be shown on TV). We have seen other stills from classic 1930s and 1940s movies that have similar snipes on the back and are on a similar paper stock, and most of them date from 1956 or soon after, when studios re-struck stills from the original negatives for theatrical or TV re-releases of those classic movies.

Note that this still has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has "TRR" running down the center. One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that the still (and many others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! Each of the stills is stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us!

Condition: very good. There are some faint circular areas of unevenness in the emulsion, but it is only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light, and the still is otherwise in pretty nice condition!
