An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

The Lady from Shanghai, the 1947 Orson Welles Asian China romantic crime film noir ("'Do all rich women play games like this?'"; "'I told you... You know nothing about wickedness.'"; "I didn't want money... she knew that when I went to work for her!"; "Soon everyone will know the Lady from Shanghai - Be sure to meet her!"; "Exciting story of a reckless & notorious woman of the world!"; "Story of a reckless woman!"; "Screenplay and Production by Orson Welles"; about an ordinary seaman who sees a beautiful woman on a yacht and gets a job on it so he can be near her, and he ends up involved in a complicated murder plot) starring Rita Hayworth, Orson Welles, Everett Sloane, Glenn Anders, Ted de Corsia, and Evelyn Ellis. Note that director/star Orson Welles was married to Rita Hayworth, and he co-wrote this screenplay as a way for him to star opposite her! Also note that this movie was originally filmed in 1946, but it was not released in the U.S. at that time. It was finally released in France in December 1947, and at that time, U.S. posters were printed with 1947 NSS numbers, but it did not finally open in the U.S. until 1948!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that oddly, the half-sheet posters from this Rita Hayworth/Orson Welles movie are far more rare than all the other sizes! We have previously auctioned all the different sizes of posters from this movie (including three-sheets and six-sheets!), but we had never auctioned a half-sheet (either style) until we were consigned the style A half-sheet in June 2017, when a paperbacked example sold for $785, and we were consigned a style B half-sheet in December 2017, when that example sold for $925. We were consigned another style B half-sheet this year (and its image is completely different from that of the style A half-sheet) but that example was linenbacked and this one is not (and this one has never been folded)!

Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has light scuffs scattered in various areas throughout (see our image). There are tears at left, and larger one at center is backed with brown plastic tape, and the other smaller ones are backed with brown paper tape. There is small blank paper loss at left and there is some other tape on back at right (not put there for any restoration purpose). There are some tiny dot stains scattered in the image, and there is a slightly larger circular area of slight discoloration to the left of the Columbia credit. Many of the defects are in the borders, and since many of the defects within the image are faint smudges or faint stains, it is likely many of them can be removed through chemical means, and after proper restoration, the poster will display great, but please read the above and look at our super-sized photo before bidding on this very rare poster.
