An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Nomads of the North, the 1920 David Hartford (billed as "David M. Hartford") silent Canada romantic love triangle melodrama ("From the novel by James Oliver Curwood"; a great story of a pretty girl in the Canadian North who loves a man who has not come back; an evil man convinces her the man she loves, played by Lon Chaney[!], is dead, so she agrees to marry him, but just before they are married, Chaney shows up, and the evil man is infuriated, and he frames Chaney for murder, and then Chaney runs off with his true love, and the evil man goes in search of him with a Canadian Mountie, who also had loved her, and who mistakenly thinks she was kidnapped; while on the run, Chaney and his love have a baby, and at the end everything works out!) starring Lon Chaney Sr., Lewis Stone, Melbourne MacDowell, Spottiswoode Aitken, and Betty Blythe. Note that to modern viewers, who are aware that Chaney played so many classic villains, it seems very odd that he would be the true love of the lead girl, and not the villain who tries to steal her away! Also, note that this movie has some strong similarities to "The Princess Bride", and one wonders if William Goldman saw or was aware of this movie prior to writing his novel!

Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Also note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had pinholes in each corner and in the center of the top and bottom borders, but all in the blank white border. It had approximately 1/4" trimmed from the right blank border and only blank white paper was affected. Otherwise, the lobby card was in nice condition prior to paperbacking. The card was nicely backed, and the small part of the missing right border was replaced, and the card displays well.
