The Old Maid, the 1939 Edmund Goulding family relationship romantic melodrama ("This, above All, Bette's Best!"; "Based on the Pulitzer Prize Play by Zoe Akins and the Novel by Edith Wharton"; a really wild story set during the Civil War of a pair of female cousins; one marries well, but her former fiance appears on the day of her wedding, and the her cousin comforts him; he goes off to the war, and he is killed, and it turns out he got the cousin pregnant, and she hides that from her town, raising the child in a home for orphans; when the girl grows up, she is taken in by her mother's rich cousin, and her real mother lives there too; the girl considers her mother's cousin to be her mother, and as she marries, her real mother wants to tell her the truth, but finally realizes that it would serve no purpose, and she keeps her secret to herself) starring Bette Davis, Miriam Hopkins, George Brent, Donald Crisp, Jane Bryan, Louise Fazenda, James Stephenson, Jerome Cowan, William Lundigan, Cecilia Loftus, and Marlene Burnett

Condition: fair to good. there was paper loss in the bottom half of the right border (all of the blank area and a small bit on the brown background); someone replaced the missing areas with paper from another card; the entire card was glued onto a very light paper backing; after replacing the missing paper, the person did restoration to all the borders (which were somewhat tattered); it appears there was little restoration within the stars' heads or in the title area

card has darkened somewhat (typical of Warner Bros. linen cards of this period); This card clearly had its problems and it has had restoration, which is very noticeable close up. But from any distance away, the defects are greatly diminished and this rare card looks pretty good!
