An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1931 8x10 stills from this classic movie are incredibly rare. In the case of this still, it has a stamp on the back from the "Courier-Express", which has a date stamp that reads "JAN 10 1931". But the movie did not go into production until August 1931. So how could this still be stamped "JAN 10 1931"? The most likely answer would be that the person who did the stamping simply forgot to change the year on the stamp from 1931 to 1932 (and it WAS just 10 days into the new year!). Of course that is just a guess, but it far and away seems the most likely explanation. Therefore the still was used in January of 1932, but it surely is an original still from 1931. Also note that this still measures 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm].
UPDATED 10/24/2016: Note that we have updated the Important Added Info section of the auction with new information. Condition: very good. There is a tiny tear near the center of the top border and a tiny brown stain in the left of the bottom blank border. There are a few faint creases scattered throughout the still, but they are truly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. There is an uneven faint scuff mark in the bottom right of the still, starting in Clarke's shoe and running unevenly to the right of that (it is not noticeable or distracting). This wonderful still will display incredibly on its new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
