An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Castle in the Desert, the 1942 Harry Lachman Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (as Charlie Chan), Arleen Whelan, Richard Derr, Douglass Dumbrille (billed as "Douglas Dumbrille"), Henry Daniell, Edmund MacDonald, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Sen Yung"), Steven Geray, and Lucien Littlefield. Note that this was the last Charlie Chan film released by 20th Century Fox who then turned over the series to Monogram. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. The card had small tears in parts of the left and right blank borders, with paper loss in the bottom of the right blank border. Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see slight signs of the restoration, but the card displays really well! Learn More about condition grades
