Date Sold 6/17/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage (working title "Hazards of the Jungle") Movie Campaign Book Page (measures 8 3/4" x 12 1/4") (Learn More) a campaign book page advertising both Chang, the 1927 Merian C. Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack silent Thailand jungle adventure documentary (about a peasant family in Siam [now Thailand] who live in a cleared area in the middle of a jungle, and they face endless problems from the wild animals that attack their domesticated animals, including tigers and leopards, but worst of all is the "chang", which is Thai for "elephant", because they sometimes stampede, and the movie shows a group of the men from the village who go out and herd up the elephants, and start to domesticate them!; the movie is not strictly a documentary, because most of the scenes were "recreated", but it seemed incredibly real to 1927 audiences) starring Kru, Chantui, Nah, and Ladah. When the producers of the movie Cooper and Schoedsack saw how much the public loved seeing authentic jungle scenes with wild animals, they hit on the idea of creating a movie with the same setting, and that led to their creating "King Kong", but of course with the massive participation of Willis O'Brien. Note that original movie paper of any sort from this documentary is INCREDIBLY scarce! In the past, we have only auctioned a first release German program, an Australian daybill, and a U.S. glass slide, but never any first release U.S. movie paper. AND Marshall Neilan, who was an actor, producer and director from the 1910s to the 1950s. Some of his movies include: Judith of Bethulia, A Star is Born, and Daddy-Long-Legs NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that from the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate studio yearbooks (also known as campaign books). They were made once each year, and they were often in full color, and often used the finest artists of the day to create many elaborate ads for their upcoming releases. The page offered here was removed from a studio yearbook, and can be framed and displayed (but almost all campaign book pages have different images on each side, so one must choose which side to display if it is framed!).
