eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result f060 SAMSON & DELILAH linen three-sheet movie poster '49 Hedy Lamarr, Mature Date Sold 2/7/2006Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Samson and Delilah, the classic 1949 Cecil B. DeMille Biblical religious sword-and-sandal doomed romance adventure epic ("The staggering story of strength... And seduction... Of the mightiest mortal who ever lived!"; "Based upon the history of Samson & Delilah in the Holy Bible, Judges 13-16; The greatest love story since the beginning of man... and woman!"; "Cecil B. DeMille's Masterpiece") starring Hedy Lamarr (in the title role as Delilah), Victor Mature (in the title role as Samson), George Sanders (as The Saran of Gaza), Angela Lansbury (as Semadar), Henry Wilcoxon, and "a Cast of Thousands" (usually this is a major overstatement, but in the case of this movie, it is surely accurate!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that it is not uncommon for the two parts of a three-sheet to not match up well, either in terms of the image matching up perfectly at the seam, or in the color not matching up. This occurred because they were making these posters so fast, and they just did not consider it a priority to have them match perfectly! In this particular poster, "Samson and Delilah", there is a part of the top of the "lah" of "Delilah" that does not match up correctly. I personally do not find this very distracting, and it would surely be on every example of this poster, but I wanted to bring it to the attention of all bidders. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had a 10" tear starting in the red background below Lamarr's arm, and extending diagonally upward and ending in her armpit. There were creases, smudges, and tiny tears on some foldines. There were pinholes, creases, smudges, small tears, and small paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well. Learn More about condition grades
