An Original Vintage Exhibitor Magazine (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 126 pages) (Learn More) The Hollywood Reporter, the film entertainment news magazine featuring articles on current projects of the time and much news and information about stars & directors as well as some very cool ads! Amazingly, it was published for many decades, starting in September 3, 1930, and it was published six days a week, 52 weeks a year! Most issues were around 8 pages, with the Saturday issue usually being 4 pages, but sometimes studios would take out four, eight, twelve page or larger ads that would make individual issues much bigger. Also, once a year, this film industry standard did a special "anniversary issue" that was hundreds of pages long. Everybody who was anybody in the business was compelled to take out an ad, and your standing in the industry was judged by how big an ad you took out! There were two daily publications like this, the other being Variety, and they were highly competitive with each other. In 2007, this magazine surpassed The Hollywood Reporter in total distribution, making it the number one entertainment daily (initially, it solely focused on Hollywood, but over the years, it expanded to include all forms of entertainment). Note that because this was a daily paper, the vast majority of people threw it away, just as they did all daily newspapers. Finding any issues of this from decades ago is incredibly difficult, and finding a specific issue is like finding a needle in a haystack, because it seems that nobody saved them! Artist: Wentworth Important Added Info: Note that The Hollywood Reporter was published six days a week, but once a year they would do a massive "annual holiday edition", and those are incredibly rare (probably even more rare than studio yearbooks!). Each of these holiday issues would be filled with "Merry Christmas" or "Holiday Greeting" ads from the most important people in Hollywood (how big an ad you took was a sign of how important you were!). Many of the ads are text only, but some have images or art, and there are some multi-page ads from studios. We have included images of some of the two-page spreads in this magazine. Note that we have provided a picture of the front cover of the magazine, and also pictures of one or more interior two-page spreads (but we didn't make much effort to find the best ones!). These images should greatly help you judge the overall condition of the magazine. Please realize that sometimes there were only a few ads in each magazine, and sometimes quite a few, but that often the bulk of each magazine is taken up by stories about current productions and other information of interest to theater owners (and I don't know that this information can be found anywhere else or that it has been reproduced in any book since its first publication!). Please know that these magazines are sealed in bags and are ready for shipping, and we cannot answer any questions about them or look through them for you, so please bid (or do not bid) based on the images we have provided.
