An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Day the Earth Stood Still, the classic 1951 Robert Wise science fiction (sci-fi) alien-contact thriller ("From out of space.... a warning and an ultimatum!"; "Strange power from another planet menaces the Earth!"; from the story by Harry Bates; about a super intelligent alien visiting the Earth, and mankind mistrusts him without reason; he is able to "pass" as a human, and he visits the world's greatest scientist, and when he is injured and taken to a hospital, he is rescued by his robot Gort) starring Michael Rennie (as Klaatu), Patricia Neal, Hugh Marlowe, Sam Jaffe, Billy Gray, Frances Bavier, and Lock Martin (as Gort the Robot). Note that the unusual music heard in this movie was achieved through the use of the musical instrument called a theramin, and audiences loved the eerie sounds it made, and it became standard in many science fiction movies thereafter to use this instrument in the same way! This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Condition: very good. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines, and there was an extra horizontal fold 3" from the bottom of the poster. The poster also had pinholes, creases, and tiny tears around the edges of the poster slightly extending into the edges of the image background in a few places. The poster was well backed and the restorer did touch-up to the foldlines. They put new blank paper over parts of the borders (this is a common restoration technique used by restorers, and since only blank white paper was affected, most collectors consider it to be an acceptable method of restoration, because this way the borders look clean and neat, and if there had been touch-up to the existing blank border defects, it would still be noticeable. The poster has very little in the image other than along the folds, and it displays great, and will look fantastic on the new owner's wall. Learn More about condition grades
