An Original 1950 (from the first release of this movie in Belgium) Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 19 3/4" [36 x 50 cm]) (Learn More) Superman, the 1948 Spencer Gordon Bennet & Thomas Carr science fiction (sci-fi) comic book superhero serial ("A Columbia Serial"; "Rocketing Into A Mighty Adventure!"; "Challenged by treachery!"; "Racing toward doom!"; "By arrangement with National Comics Publications, Inc."; "Based on the Superman adventure feature appearing in Superman and Action Comics magazines, in daily and Sunday newspapers coast-to-coast and on the Superman radio program broadcast over the Mutual Network.") starring Kirk Alyn (in the title role as Superman/Clark Kent), Noel Neill (who later reprised her role as Lois Lane in the TV show), Carol Forman (as "Spider Lady"), Tommy Bond (as Jimmy Olsen; best remembered as Butch the bully from the Our Gang series), Pierre Watkin (as Perry White), Wheeler Oakman, Nelson Leigh (as Jor-El), Luana Walters (as Lara), Virginia Carroll (as Martha Kent), and Ed Cassidy (as Eben Kent). Note that Superman was created in 1938 as a comic book hero, but it took ten long years for a movie to be made depicting him (perhaps moviemakers were deterred by the expensive budget required to have Superman perform his great feats of strength and flying!). This item is from that very first movie, the serial entitled "Superman"! Republic Pictures had tried to make a Superman serial in 1941, but DC wanted more money than they were willing to pay, and they ended up making a Captain Marvel serial instead. Two years later, they made the first Batman serial, and it would not be for five more years before they finally made this serial! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jiel Important Added Info: Note that this serial was released in Belgium as two separate feature films. The first one was not labeled part 1 (which seems very deceptive, since it would end without the audiences getting to see the "ending"!). The second one does have "EPOQUE 2" on it. We have only auctioned two examples of both posters in all our years of auctioning (and the part 1 posters sold for $1,909 ["very good" linenbacked] and $934 ["good to very good" linenbacked], and the part 2 posters sold for $1,925 ["good" unbacked] and $686 ["good" unbacked]!). Both have unusual images of Superman. We are auctioning both examples of these highly desirable and extremely rare posters in two separate auctions (both unbacked)! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14 1/4" x 18 1/2" [36 x 47 cm]. Finally note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. Part of the blank top was trimmed. There are tiny pinholes in the corners and some extra horizontal folds. There are some creases around the edges, including a diagonal crease that enters into the "AN" of "SUPERMAN" at the end of the title. Other than the above defects, the poster is in nice condition, and has bright colors. One can certainly display this extremely rare poster exactly as it is, or one might choose to have it linenbacked, but either way, the new owner will have an extremely rare and desirable poster to display on their wall!
