An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The Blue Dahlia, the classic 1946 George Marshall romantic crime murder film noir ("Double Dame Trouble! Double-Barreled Action!"; "Double-dame trouble on his hands... and a murder mob at his throat!"; "One's out to frame him... the other to tame him!"; "With 3 famous 'finds' from 'The Lost Weekend'"; "Written by Raymond Chandler"; "Produced by John Houseman"; Ladd is a veteran just back from the war who finds his wife having an affair, and she is murdered, and he is naturally the lead suspect; he gets the ex-wife of his wife's new lover, played by Lake, to help him, and together they solve the crime) starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake, William Bendix, Howard da Silva, Doris Dowling, Frank Faylen, Tom Powers, Vera Marshe, Hugh Beaumont, and Walter Sande. Note that while many of Raymond Chandler's works were adapted to movies, this was the only one that Chandler wrote directly as a movie! Also note that by 1946, Alan Ladd had become a very top star, so on the advertising for this movie, his image dominates the posters, with Veronica Lake in the background, whereas when "This Gun For Hire" was released 4 years earlier, Ladd was pretty unknown, and Lake dominates the advertising for that movie (although Ladd does appear on the posters)! Also, note that a year after this film was released, a woman was murdered and newspapers dubbed it "The Black Dahlia" case in a morbid twist on this film's title.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this insert poster is many times more rare than the one-sheet poster from the same classic film noir movie (and the insert has a completely different image from the one-sheet). We have only ever auctioned two examples of this insert, and only one in the last 20 years (it sold for $2,205)! Note that this poster was stored folded for a long time, and therefore we will send it to the winner of this auction folded in a flat package (unless they purchase rolled items that they want to combine it with, and then it can be rolled and sent in a tube together with those rolled items).

Condition: very good to fine. The poster has tiny pinholes in the blank corners. It has faint smudges in the top of the left blank border and in the left of the top blank border. Otherwise, it is in really excellent condition, and it has never had any sort of restoration or tape! Plus, the poster was likely displayed very briefly, because the colors are not at all faded, which is unusual for this poster (and posters of this period that have the same red color)!
