An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 3/4" x 22 1/4" [37 x 57 cm]) (Learn More) The Red Shoes, the classic 1948 (released in the U.S. in 1948 in a very limited release, and then in a wider release in 1949, and then in a very wide release in 1950!) Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger English dance ballet romantic melodrama ("... Dance she did, and dance she must between her two loves."; "There has never been a motion picture like 'The Red Shoes'"; "There have never been reviews as wonderful as these..."; "Winner of three Academy Awards"; "Written, Produced and Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen) starring Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring, Moira Shearer, Robert Helpmann, Ludmilla Tcherina, and Leonide Massine ("The part of The Shoemaker created and danced by Leonide Massine"). Note that Shearer did not want to make this movie, because of how difficult it would be for her to perform the many dance scenes, and it took Powell and Pressburger more than a year to convince her to make it! Also note that this movie won Academy Awards for art direction and music scoring, and it is widely considered to be one of the movies that made the best use of three-strip Technicolor. Also note that this movie includes a scene of the dancers outdoors by tall buildings, and it was too costly to film that scene outdoors, so that scene was done with the judicious use of matte paintings! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a fairly heavy paper backing (acid-free). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and some smaller posters like this. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled. Someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we know it would definitely lessen its condition, so we will only send it in a large flat package that measures approximately 17x24. Note that this poster was accidentally listed in the section with posters that CAN be rolled, but as noted above, it can't. The only place it says that it can be rolled is in our chart of items from this auction, but ignore that and know that it must be sent in a large flat package that measures approximately 17x24. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had very minor fold and border wear, and a tax stamp in the to right, in the overprinted theater name. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
