Wellman romantic family relationship melodrama ("We Urge You to See Barbara Stanwyck in Edna Ferber's Epic of American Womanhood"; about a young woman whose parents die separately, causing her to go from a good life to a not very good one, and she starts over again as a schoolteacher and then marries a farmer, but then he dies too, and she makes the farm successful all on her own, while taking care of their son; she keeps talking about how he is growing and his nickname is "So Big", but he grows up to be pretty shiftless, and a neighbor farm boy grows up to be a great sculptor, and the mother must deal with the fact that her son did not inherit her perseverance and hard work ethic, especially when he falls for a pretty artist, played by a very young Bette Davis) starring Barbara Stanwyck, George Brent, Dickie Moore (in the title role as "So Big" as a child), Bette Davis (in one of her first significant roles), Guy Kibbee, Hardie Albright (in the title role as "So Big", as a grown up), Alan Hale Sr., and Dick Winslow NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
