An Original 1950 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Japanese "B2" Movie Poster (measures 20" x 27 1/2" [51 x 70 cm]) (Learn More)

Road to Zanzibar, the 1941 Victor Schertzinger Africa jungle screwball musical adventure comedy (the second of the highly successful "Road to..." pictures) starring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Dorothy Lamour, Una Merkel, Eric Blore, Luis Alberni, Joan Marsh, and Georges Renavantt

Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned this poster once before and that was over 5 years ago! Note also that, immediately after World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and part of Germany, and many American movies were shown in both countries between 1945 and the end of the occupation. Most of the Japanese posters we have seen from that period and many of the German posters and programs from the same period have a "Motion Picture Export Association" (MPEA) circular printed logo on the poster or program, and apparently this was a program run in conjunction with the U.S. government. Since there were many U.S. servicemen in Japan and Germany at this time, many of these posters and programs have the title written in both Japanese (or German) and in English. Note also that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 20" x 27 1/2" [51 x 70 cm]. Also note that this poster was tri-folded only (which means there is no vertical machine fold) but because it would be more expensive to send flat, it will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: fair. The poster has much discoloration mainly in the lower half and around the edges and that discoloration has caused the paper to become quite fragile (see our image). It has tears of varying lengths around the edges and at lower right (several are repaired with tape from the back). One should exercise caution when working with the poster. After proper restoration the poster could display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
