An Original 1935 Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 12" x 18" [30 x 46 cm]; 16 pages) (Learn More) The Clairvoyant, the 1934 (released in the U.S. in 1935) Maurice Elvey English romantic fortune telling thriller ( "Hexed by the evil eye"; based on the novel by Ernst Lothar; screenplay by Charles Bennett; a clever story of a man and his wife who have a fake mind reading act, but then he discovers he can start to actually see the future, but only when he is in the presence of a particular young woman; he has a vision of a mining disaster that kills hundreds, and he goes to the mine to warn the workers, and when the disaster occurs, he is put on trial for causing it!) starring Claude Rains, Fay Wray, Mary Clare, Ben Field, and Jane Baxter. Note that this is a completely forgotten movie today, which is very sad, because not only does it feature two major Hollywood stars (odd that they are in an English movie!), but also it is written by Charles Bennett, who went on to write several of Hitchcock's best movies, including "The 39 Steps" the following year. Perhaps it will get "rediscovered" one of these days. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a single lobby card and a few stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this pressbook! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Condition: fair to good, WITH CUTS. The interior pages are fragile and have tiny paper loss in the bottom corners. One interior page has two smaller cuts and another interior page has two tiny cuts. The cover was separating at the left of the middle fold, and someone put a piece of clear tape over the left 1 1/2", and there is separation and some tiny paper loss on that fold. See our many images to get a sense of the exact condition of this incredibly rare pressbook. Learn More about condition grades
