An Original Vintage Unfolded English [War] Poster (measures 6" x 30" [15 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Take Up The Sword of Justice, the 1915 English World War I (WWI) recruitment poster ("Join now") created after the sinking of the RMS Lusitania to encourage men to join the military, and featuring art of a hand offering a sheathed sword. Note that on May 7th of 1915, a German U-boat torpedoed Lusitania off the southern coast of Ireland inside a declared war zone. A second internal explosion sank her in 18 minutes, killing 1198 passengers and crew. The Germans justified treating Lusitania as a naval vessel because she was carrying hundreds of tons of war munitions and ammunition. However, the ship was not armed for battle and was carrying thousands of civilian passengers. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It has tiny creases and tears at right but otherwise it is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
