A Linenbacked Italian Advertising Poster (measures 53 1/4" x 76 1/4" [135 x 194 cm]) (Learn More) John Hopps & Sons, the circa 1940s version of an Italian advertising poster that was originally printed in 1923, promoting a brand of Marsala wine, and featuring art the Roman god Mercury holding multiple flags which are protruding from a bottle of the wine. We have seen other versions of this poster that measure different sizes, but they are all extremely difficult to precisely date. Our best guess is that this poster is from no later than the 1940s. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Mario Bazzi Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a tear from the back of the figure's waist, down into his leg. It had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on many parts of some folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
