An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

Walt Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, the classic 1955 Richard Fleischer Walt Disney underwater science fiction (sci-fi) scuba diving adventure thriller ("The Mightiest Motion Picture Of Them All!"; "Based on the novel by Jules Verne") starring Kirk Douglas, James Mason (as Captain Nemo), Paul Lukas, Peter Lorre, Robert J. Wilke, Ted de Corsia, and Carleton Young. Note that the studio claimed that Kirk Douglas did all of his scenes himself, refusing a stunt double, even for the "thrilling and dangerous underwater scenes"!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that first release posters of any kind from this classic Walt Disney movie are extremely rare, likely because it was exceptionally popular and it was re-released several times, and it seems likely that those many re-releases used up whatever few first release posters that remained (we have only auctioned two of the first release style A one-sheets over our many years of auctioning, and we have auctioned many dozens of re-release one-sheets). We have only ever auctioned one first release six-sheet, and that was in 2013, and it auctioned for $3,700! Now we are auctioning a first release three-sheet for the very first time, and it may be many years before we auction another one! This rare poster was reused when this movie was re-released in 1963, and a 1963 re-release NSS was stamped on the back of the poster, near to the original NSS number. But it is definitely the first release poster from 1955 and not the re-release (it was just stamped on the back when it was reused). Also note that this three-sheet was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap.

Condition: fair to good. The poster had many pinholes and tears around the edges. It had a long semi-circular tear in the upper left that extended through the bottom left of the "2" of the title, and into the first "e" of "Leagues". It also had separation on parts of the foldlines. Someone put a great deal of tape on the back of all the tears and separations. In addition, the poster has two small areas of paper loss in the bottom border. Obviously, this extremely rare poster needs to be professionally restored, with all the tape being removed and then proper linenbacking done. Please bear the above defects in mind (and the cost of restoration) before bidding on this poster.
