An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Lawrence of Arabia, the classic 1962 (wide release in the U.S. in 1963) David Lean (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English/U.S. World War I (WWI) desert adventure thriller ("Stands Alone!"; "Unanimously acclaimed as 'One of the all time greatest films!'"; "Best Picture of the Year!"; "Winner of 7 Academy Awards!"; "The motion picture that made great international stars of Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif"; "After five years... Lawrence; billed as "introducing Peter O'Toole as Lawrence"; which is odd, because he had small parts in several movies prior to this one!), and Zia Mohyeddin NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Georges Kerfyser Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet is rarely offered for sale. We have only auctioned four examples of it in all our years of auctioning, and one of them was in much lesser condition! Note that for this classic English/U.S. co-production, the producers knew that it would surely win multiple Academy Awards, and so it was given a very limited pre-Academy Award release at the end of 1962, so that it would qualify for the Academy Awards given the following year. There were two different pre-Academy Awards one-sheets created, one of which has this classic silhouette art of Peter O'Toole, and the other of which has art of Peter O'Toole riding on a camel, and both of these posters are many times more rare than the one-sheets which credit this classic movie as an Academy Award Winner, because those one-sheets were solely used for the very limited 1962 release, and would not have been used at any point after that, because of course, the studio very much wanted to make those viewing the posters aware of the Academy Awards the movie had won! Note that this one-sheet is one of the 28 folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction that were not consigned to us by Dominique Besson. It was consigned to us by another collector, but that in no way diminishes this poster, and it fits well with the Besson collection. What is the Dominique Besson collection? He started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled! Note that this one-sheet is being auctioned in the category that Dominique Besson labeled "British Cinema". Condition: very good. The poster has tiny separation at the top crossfold and some faint creases on small parts of some folds. It has faint smudges in the top left corner, extending into the top of the "L". Otherwise, the poster is in nice condition. The poster could absolutely be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one could choose to have the above truly minor defects corrected through linenbacking. Either way, the new owner will have a great poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
