Date Sold 6/25/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Merton of the Movies, the 1924 James Cruze Los Angeles Hollywood California silent movie-making acting romantic comedy ("From a story by Harry Leon Wilson and the play by George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly"; a familiar plot of a no-talent who ends up a Hollywood star by accident!) starring Glenn Hunter (in the title role as Merton Gill), Viola Dana, Charles Sellon, Sadie Gordon, and Gale Henry. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the vast majority of collectors would assume that this is a title card, but it is not! In the mid to late 1920s, Paramount made many sets of lobby cards where the seven scene cards all LOOK like title cards, but the actual title card is different from the seven scene cards (not too long after this, Paramount abandoned title cards altogether for the most part for the next forty-odd years, instead using a posed portrait of the stars in place of a title card). In the case of this set, ALL eight cards seem to be scene cards! This scene card is from one of those sets where the scene cards are commonly mistaken for title cards. Please do not bid on it thinking it is a title card, as it is a scene card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card was likely displayed in a frame, because it has darkened, except for an area in the left and right that extends into the background area at the right. It also shows that the blue background has faded considerably. There are faint water stains above and to the right of Hunter's hat. In spite of these defects, the card displays pretty well. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
