R49 Vintage Theatrical Folded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair to good. poster has four vertical folds and one horizontal one; there was tape on the back of the left and center vertical folds covering small paper loss (one area in the Scarecrow's forehead and hat and one area just between the images of Garland and the Good Witch in the middle of the poster; there are some blue ink stains around those small areas of paper loss; there is small paper loss below the "O" "OZ"; there is a 6" tear starting in the top right blank border and running just to the top of the Lion's forehead; there are many pinholes in each corner and some around the edges of the poster; the entire poster has darkened, and there are some brown water stains scattered throughout the poster; there are stains on the head of the Tinman at middle left and a small stain next to Garland's nose at top middle; there are many creases and smudges throughout the poster, more so along the foldlines; there are many small tears in the bottom border; stenciled on the poster is a For General Exhibition triangle in the upper left and "an MGM Silver Anniversary Picture" in the top right; Clearly, this poster has lots and lots of defects. But a talented restorer could surely "rescue" this poster, and make it look great, and not only is this poster very rare (I have never seen it before), but it has one of the better poster images for the movie!
