Date Sold 1/17/2023 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Chinese Ring, the 1948 William Beaudine Asian Oriental detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' Character") starring Roland Winters ("as Charlie Chan"), Warren Douglas, Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Victor Sen Young"; as Tommy Chan), Louise Currie, and Philip Ahn. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! The title card has some smudges at center and around the edges and it has a small tear at upper left that has been repaired with tape from the back (and it has some other tape on the back that was not put there for any restoration purpose, typical of vintage lobby cards.) The two cards picture below it have slightly darkened around the edges and they have some pinholes in the corners, but otherwise the scene cards are in nice condition and have no tape whatsoever on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind!
