An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Something to Sing About (released in France as "Hollywood Hollywood"), the 1937 Victor Schertzinger Hollywood actor musical comedy ("Dancing... Romancing and Packing a Real Wallop! The No. 1 Dynamo of the screen goes to town in his latest and greatest role."; "It's something to cheer about!"; "Original Story, Music and Direction by Victor Schertzinger"; about a New York bandleader who goes to Hollywood and appears in a movie, when the filming is over he marries his fiance and they go on a honeymoon, but in the meantime the movie is a huge hit and he is lured back to Hollywood, which puts a strain on his new marriage) starring James Cagney ("A Cagney You Have Never Seen!"), Evelyn Daw, William Frawley, Mona Barrie, Gene Lockhart, James Newill, Harry Barris, Cully Richards, Candy Candido, William Davidson, Richard Tucker, Marek Windheim, Johnny Arthur, Dwight Frye, and Philip Ahn. Note that this movie was made when Cagney was having a major dispute with Warner Bros., not just about salary, but also about them forcing him to make gangster movie after gangster movie. So he signed to make this movie with Grand National, a small studio, and it is a parody of the beginning of his own career, because he was a dancer on Broadway who made Public Enemy, and he thought that might be a one time thing, and that he would return to Broadway, but it made him a star (and typecast him as a gangster). However, this movie turned out to be a major flop, which really hurt Grand National, because they spent over $900,000 on it, which crippled the studio and put them out of business a few years later. What makes it doubly sad is that they had the rights to Angels with Dirty Faces at the same time as this movie, and they chose to make this movie first! Had they made Angels first, it might have made the studio much more successful! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Grand National made two different half-sheets for this movie, but they did not mark either one as "style A" or "style B". Both are incredibly rare! We have only auctioned the other style once before, and we have NEVER auctioned this half-sheet before! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair to good. The poster was folded once in each direction and at some later time, someone folded or rolled it, causing several additional partial vertical creases evenly spaced in the poster. There is brown paper tape on the back of the horizontal fold and on the back of the bottom 6" of the vertical fold. There are pieces of tape, creases, and small tears around the edges. There is paper loss at the crossfold, with an irregular tear running 2" to the left and right of that middle crossfold. There are smudges and stains to the left of the middle of the poster, in the girl's hair and Cagney's ear. There are small tears and tiny paper loss in the center of the top half of the vertical fold, and many creases scattered throughout the poster. In spite of all these defects, the poster could still be displayed as it is, because they are not terribly distracting, and certainly, restoration can be performed, but please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
