An Original Vintage Linenbacked Theatrical Italian Movie Poster (measures 27 1/2" x 39" [70 x 99 cm]) (Learn More)

Le Due Strade (literally translates to "The Two Roads"; the IMDb lists this movie's title as "Le Due Strade", but the country of origin poster we have seen has it as "Due Strade", so we wonder if they are just wrong), the 1922 Toddi Italian silent romantic melodrama starring Vera D'Angara, Amilcare Giorgi, Bruno Emanuel Palmi, and Ulderica Persica. We were unable to find out more about this movie, but given the director's great interest in philosophical pursuits (see below), we would guess that the movie deals with a woman's choice of which of two roads to follow in her life. Note that director "Toddi" (born Pietro Silvio Rivetta) was a true "Renaissance man" (and this phrase is often over used, but not in this case). He dabbled in many things early in his life and in 1920, he tried his hand at movies, directing 12 of them over the next 3 years (and he drew the art for at least one of the posters!). In 1926, he was appointed consul to Japan, and he learned much about that culture, and over the next decades spent much time on many completely different endeavors. In the early 1940s, he established in Rome the "School of Wellness Integral", based on the principle of minimum effort and maximum efficiency. Rivetta was one of the fathers of demodoxalogia (whatever that is!). At the end of the war, he was a professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Rome. He was a very prolific writer throughout his life until the early postwar years. Rivetta published numerous books, mostly related to the history and Japanese culture, but also manual linguistic and entertaining books in which "played" with the rules of grammar of the Italian language, and others written in different languages. He certainly was a fascinating man who deserves a better place in history!. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Toddi
Important Added Info: Note that this is a country of origin poster for this Italian movie.

Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had darkening along the foldlines and around the edges. It had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and small areas of paper loss in the vertical foldline just above the bottom crossfold. There were three areas of paper loss in the right blank border and two in the left blank border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style" onto a thin linen, meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Certainly, it could be removed from the thin linen and re-backed, with restoration to the above defects, or it could be displayed and enjoyed as it is.
