eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 7x0506 LILLIAN GISH signed promo brochure '28 by her, along with portraits of MGM's top stars! Date Sold 6/19/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Promotional Movie Brochure (measures 3 3/4" x 4 1/2" [10 x 11 cm] when folded; 22 pages) (Learn More) Lillian Gish was born in 1893. She was one of the most legendary actresses of early cinema, with lead roles in Birth of a Nation and Intolerance. When sound came in she oddly switched almost entirely to the stage (as Paul Muni would do a few years later), just when most stage actors were moving TO Hollywood. She did have some choice film roles in later years, but none more memorable than as the righteous Miss Cooper in Charles Laughton's Night of the Hunter (who can forget her singing "Bringing in the Sheaves" with crazy preacher Robert Mitchum?), and in 1987, at the age of 92, she appeared alongside Bette Davis in The Whales of August! Some of her other movies include: The Wind, Ben-Hur, and Duel In the Sun (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film). She passed away in 1993 at the age of 99. Important Added Info: Note that this item (which is a really cool fold-out studio promo brochure) has been personally autographed (signed) by Lillian Gish to the right of her portrait! The promo brochure, which has "The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Family Album" on one page (and which we have never seen before), was originally printed on a single 3 3/4" x 43" sheet with printing on both sides, which was then folded multiple times to create 22 "pages", each devoted to a specific MGM star or team, including Lon Chaney Sr., Greta Garbo, Laurel & Hardy, the Our Gang kids, Buster Keaton, and everyone else who was big at MGM at that point in the 1920s! There is one page for "Hal Roach's All Stars" and another page for "Electric Light Names", which was obviously for those not considered important enough to merit their own page, and since it includes Joan Crawford, we can safely guess that this is from 1928 or earlier, right before she hit the big time (and on the portrait of John Gilbert, it mentions what he is about to do in "the season of 1928-29", further guaranteeing it is from 1928) Our consignor is a collector of movie memorabilia who purchased this item already signed, and while he doesn't know how the signature was obtained, he (and we) believe it is likely that the autograph is authentic. Condition: good to very good. The "album" is completely separated at one place, creating 8 pages and 14 pages on separate sheets. There are some tiny stains around the edges and there is a piece of tape on the pages that have the MGM lion and the name of the album on them. See our images to get a good sense of the condition of this very rare and historical item. Learn More about condition grades
