An Original Vintage Magazine (measures 8 1/4" x 11 1/2" [21 x 29 cm]) (Learn More) Sports Illustrated, the premiere sports magazine that was first issued in August 1954. The first few issues of the magazine had inserts of baseball cards that could be removed by the owner of the magazine. For many years, those first few issues were incredibly prized by collectors, and sold for very large amounts of money. Some time ago, the editors of Sports Illustrated discovered many examples of the first issue in perfect condition in their warehouse! Those were sold to collectors, and that greatly lowered the price of the first issue only, because it went from being extremely rare (especially with the cards inside) to being not hard to find, and the discovered ones were in mint condition! However, some collectors distinguish between the warehouse find examples and those that were actually bought back in 1954! Starting in 1964, the magazine annually publishes the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The issue features female fashion models, celebrities and athletes wearing swimwear in various locales around the world. The highly coveted cover photograph has been considered as the arbiter of supermodel succession. It is also credited with making the bikini, invented in 1946, a legitimate piece of apparel. Condition: very good. There are some creases and scuffs around the edges of the covers. There is a small water stain at the top of the spine on the back cover only.
