An Undated (probably 1980s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) the 1959 local theater window card advertising movies at the Islander Drive-In Theatre in Key West, Florida for the upcoming week: Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) ANDFort Apache, the 1948 John Ford U.S. Cavalry Native American Indian cowboy western ("John Ford's Masterpiece of the Frontier!"; based on the James Warner Bellah story, "Massacre"; about a Civil War hero who is transferred to a western regiment, obviously based on General Custer, and he wants to have added glory by killing Cochise, but the local captain, played by Wayne, does not feel the Indians are in the wrong, but the Colonel persists, and many of his men are massacred, similar to what actually happened at Little Big Horn) starring John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple, Pedro Armendariz, Ward Bond, George O'Brien, Victor McLaglen, Anna Lee, Irene Rich, Dick Foran, Guy Kibbee, Grant Withers, Mae Marsh, John Agar (billed as "and introducing John Agar"), Miguel Inclan (as Cochise), and Jack Pennick. Note that this was the first of the three John Ford/John Wayne cavalry movies (the second was "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" in 1949, and the third was "Rio Grande" in 1950). Note that George O'Brien had been a World War I soldier and Navy boxing champion, and after he left the Navy, he worked as a stuntman, and in 1924, John Ford picked him to star in his silent epic "The Iron Horse". He became a major silent star, and worked consistently in the 1930s, and then he re-enlisted at the start of World War II, when he was over 40 years old! After the war, his old friend and mentor John Ford gave him parts in three westerns, including this one! AND Love Me Tender, the 1956 Robert D. Webb Civil War romantic rock 'n' roll (rock and roll) musical ("Mr. Rock 'N' Roll in the story he was born to play!"; "...singin' man ...fightin' man ...lovin' man"; "Based on a story by Maurice Geraghty") starring Richard Egan, Debra Paget, Elvis Presley (billed as "introducing Elvis Presley in his first motion picture"; in his first movie!), Robert Middleton, William Campbell, Neville Brand, Mildred Dunnock, and Bruce Bennett. Note that producer Hal Wallis intended the 1957 film "Loving You" to be the first Elvis film. However, six months before the start of production for that project, Wallis loaned Elvis to 20th Century Fox and "Love Me Tender" became his first movie ANDGene Autry Range Rider, High Society with the Bowery Boys, as well as a 3 Stooges Comedy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
