Date Sold 6/18/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; 40 pages) (Learn More) Columbia 1927-28, the 1927 Columbia Pictures campaign book ("The Perfect Thirty") sent to theater owners to encourage them to show upcoming Columbia movies scheduled for 1927 and 1928. The book includes many pages of images and information about Columbia's upcoming movies including: Virgin Lips, Beware of Blondes, Stage Kisses, Forgotten Women, The Siren (with Priscilla Dean), Golf Widows, Broadway Daddies, and many more (and many of these are "lost" films which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist). If it isn't already obvious to you, Columbia did not have hardly any top stars at this time, so they made many movies with lurid subject matters that let them create sexy poster images (to hide their lack of stars). Of special interest is a page of "authors, playwrights, and producers", which includes Edgar Rice Burroughs (the Tarzan creator). This book shows that Columbia was starting to come into its own as a significant studio, because it is filled with all full-page two-color ads, many signed by artists, with some fantastic artwork. Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. There is wear around the edges of the covers. The center spread has come loose. Otherwise, the book is in pretty nice condition!
