An Unfolded Acetate Travel Poster (measures 22" x 35 1/4" [56 x 90 cm]) (Learn More) Pan Am: Russia, the 1960s airline aviation airplane travel poster encouraging people to use Pan American World Airways when traveling to Russia, and featuring art of the domes of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow's Red Square. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we previously auctioned a paper example of this travel poster, and that was 9 years ago. THIS poster is not printed on paper! Rather, it is printed on a plastic material that is likely acetate. It has full-color printing on both sides. We would have to think that this was intended to be displayed in light boxes, but for whatever reason, it either was abandoned before it was ever implemented, or it was tried and quickly abandoned. Given that we have never before auctioned a travel poster like this, we think it is more likely that this got abandoned before it started (perhaps the cost of making the posters was too high, or perhaps theaters didn't want to pay to have expensive light boxes installed). Interestingly, we auctioned a group of movie posters that were extremely similar to this and printed on the same material, and double-sided. Those dated from the late 1960s, so it seems that this poster was probably part of that same experiment with movie posters, and other than the movie posters like this that we were consigned, we have not been consigned others, so we think these are all incredibly rare. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good to fine. The movie posters that we were consigned that were like this (see above) had some cracks and were somewhat fragile. By contrast, this poster is in really excellent condition!
