An Original Vintage Magazine (measures 10 1/2" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Woodstock (Woodstock Music and Art Fair) was a music festival which was held from August 15th to the 18th in 1969. It took place at Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York (it was actually 40 miles from the town of Woodstock). Billed as "an Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music", it attracted an audience of more than 400,000 attendees. Thirty-two acts performed outdoors despite sporadic rain, and it was one of the largest music festivals held in history. The festival has become widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history as well as a defining event for the counterculture generation. The event's significance was reinforced by a 1970 documentary film titled Woodstock, an accompanying soundtrack album, and a song written by Joni Mitchell that became a major hit. Some of the acts included: Joe Cocker and the Grease Band, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis played separately with the Kozmic Blues Band), the Grateful Dead, Ten Years After, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and Creedence Clearwater Revival NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Arnold Skolnick Important Added Info: Note that in late 1969, Life published this special issue of their magazine entirely devoted to the legendary Woodstock music festival, and of course, being so soon after the festival, they had access to a huge number of great images, some of which may not have been pictured since (but we don't know for sure)! It appears that the cover is art by Arnold Skolnick, who did the classic posters for this festival, but we can't say for certain. We have only previously auctioned one example of this magazine. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that we have provided a picture of the front cover of the magazine, and pictures of interior two-page spreads (including the table of contents page if there is one; but we didn't make much effort to find the best ones!). These images should greatly help you judge the overall condition of the magazine, and the contents page lets you know exactly what articles and stories are contained in this particular issue. Please know that these magazines are sealed in bags and are ready for shipping, and we cannot answer any questions about them or look through them for you, so please bid (or do not bid) based on the images we have provided. Condition: good. Note that we have attempted to check to see if the magazine is complete and uncut, and we believe that it is. However, there is a slight possibility that we might have missed a small cut or a page that was neatly removed, and if that happens, you can return the magazine. We have solely provided an overall description of the condition of the magazine, but you can also refer to our super-sized images. Please bid (or not bid) based on that overall grade and by viewing the super-sized images. Learn More about condition grades
