An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

They Drive By Night (released in England as "The Road to Frisco"), the 1940 Raoul Walsh trucker romantic love triangle action melodrama ("No picture in 1940 will have bigger thrills!"; "From a Novel by A.I. Bezzerides"; about truckers and their love lives; it stole part of its plot from "Bordertown"!) starring George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart, Alan Hale Sr., Gale Page, Roscoe Karns, John Litel, Charles Halton, Charles C. Wilson, George Tobias, and Henry O'Neill. Note that movies rarely have top stars in all four lead roles (other than MGM movies of the 1930s and early 1940s, because they had so many such stars that they could afford to do this), but this movie is kind of a rare exception. We say "kind of" because Humphrey Bogart and Ida Lupino were not yet top stars when they made this movie, but the very next movie they made was "High Sierra", which did help elevate both of them to greater stardom!

Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good. The card has darkened somewhat, typical of Warner Bros. linen lobby cards of this period. However, the card is not fragile, which is a big plus! The card had a tiny area of paper loss in the woman's forehead and a 1" tear with tiny paper loss in the left of Bogart's pockets. There was tiny paper loss in Bogart's left shoulder and a tiny pinhole in his mouth. There were some small areas of paper loss in the background between the three actors, and small paper loss in the hat of the man at right. There were pinholes in the bottom of the word "HUMPHREY" and paper loss in the background to the right of the word "BOGART" and paper loss in the upper right blank border. There were some other pinholes around the edges. Someone performed restoration to all of the above defects without backing the card and while the restoration is pretty noticeable in the background areas, they still did a nice job of making the card display pretty well, and of course, additional restoration could be performed. However, please look at our image of the reverse of the card to see where the restoration was performed, and read the above carefully before bidding on this card.
