An Undated (probably 1953) Re-release Vintage Theatrical "Spook Show" Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (measures 17" x 28") (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the date on this window card corresponds to 1936, 1942, 1953, and 1959. Based on the age and style of the window card, we do not believe it could be from later than the 1950s. Given that our research indicates that there was a "Spook Show" presentation of "Frankenstein" in the early 1950s, we think it is most likely that this window card is from 1953. This is given added weight by the fact that this window card has "ON STAGE IN PERSON" in the center (and "Asylum of Horrors presents" above the title), which would seem to indicate that there was a person in a Frankenstein costume appearing on stage before or after the movie, and the window card says that it only played for one day, also typical of "Spook Shows" of this time. If anyone knows more about this window card, or the information referenced on it, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. There is small paper loss in the bottom left blank corner. There is a 1 1/2" piece of clear tape on the upper left border, at the top of the image background. There are smudges and small stains around the edges of the poster. There is a 1" tear near the middle of the right border. There is surface paper loss on the back of the right border where there was once tape running down that border, but it does not affect the front. Other than the above, the poster is in pretty nice condition, and it would look great on anyone's wall! Learn More about condition grades
