Date Sold 8/24/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 22 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Born to Be Loved, the 1959 Hugo Haas bad-girl-in-trouble romantic comedy melodrama ("Who could she turn to in the city's crowded jungle?"; "The eager middle-aged man who wanted to 'help'?"; "The wise girls... who knew the ropes?"; "The boy with a promise in his eyes?"; "She was Born to be Loved but afraid to try!!!"; "Hear two new hits!"; "Some girls are made for love... Some girls are afraid of it... Which was she...? Born to be lonely or... Born to be Loved"; also written and produced by Hugo Haas), starring Carol Morris ("Miss Universe of 1957"), Barbara Jo Allen (billed as "Vera Vague"), Hugo Haas, Dick Kallman (billed as "Introducing Dick Kallman The New Singing Sensation!"), and Jacqueline Fontaine. Note that star/director Hugo Haas was a native of Czechoslovakia, and in 1937, he wrote the screenplay for a movie, "Skeleton on Horseback", based on a play by Karel Capek (best remembered as the author of "R.U.R.", the first literary mention of robots), and that movie was obviously intended as an allegory against Hitler and fascism. When Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia right after the movie was made, Haas fled to the United States, but he never achieved major prominence in movies, although he is well remembered for directing a series of movies about an old man in love with a young beautiful woman (starring Haas himself, with a series of "bad girls", including Cleo Moore)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there are 14 different stills and eight duplicate still(s) in this lot (not pictured). Please do not bid on this lot thinking you will receive 22 different stills. SUPER IMPORTANT! THOUGH ONLY EIGHT OF THE STILLS ARE PICTURED, THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 22 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE (but realize that on some of these lots with 9 or more stills there may be a few duplicates, mostly on post-1960 lots)! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made only a small effort to find the best stills in these lots, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured! Please do NOT bid on this lot unless you can accept that you are only seeing eight of the stills. Condition: good to very good. Learn More about condition grades
