Aubrey Smith, and Florence Bates NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this "other company" title card! This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair to good. There is light water staining down the left of the card extending into the left of the title, credits, and Bruce's hair at lower left, and there is another light water stain in the bottom right corner, but it mostly only affects the blank border. There are some long slightly diagonal horizontal creases in the upper center of the card that extend into Fontaine's chin and neck, as well as Olivier's forehead and ear. Parts of those creases had tiny surface paper loss and someone performed touch up to those areas. There is a piece of tape on the back of the upper left border, but it was not put there for any restoration purpose. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card.
