An Original 1930 (from the first release of this movie in Australia) Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 15 1/4" x 40" [39 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Her Private Life, the 1929 Alexander Korda romantic melodrama ("Luxuries without love! Or poverty with happiness! Which would you choose when honor hangs in the balance?"; about an English woman trapped in an unhappy marriage, she falls in love with an American man which leads to complications involving his cheating at cards and her being blackmailed, so she moves to the U.S. to escape from the threats and she is forced to marry a rich suitor, but the suitor realizes she loves the American man and he allows her to marry him, and on the day of their marriage she finds out it was his sister and not the American man who cheated at cards!) starring Billie Dove ("more Radiantly Beautiful than ever before"), Thelma Todd, Holmes Herbert, Montagu Love, and Walter Pidgeon. Note that Walter Pidgeon was born in 1897, and started making silent movies in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with "How Green Was My Valley", and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Wynne W. Davies Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned ANY Australian movie paper for this title in all our years of auctioning (and we have only auctioned a few small U.S. items like lobby cards, stills and heralds, but NO other posters!). Condition: fair to good. There is darkening and tiny brown stains in a triangular area at lower left and in the left of the top blank area, with some small stains in parts of the rest of the borders. This is the kind of poster that responds really well to restoration. It is likely that much or most of the staining can be removed chemically, and after proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
