An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Russian Movie Poster (measures 28 1/2" x 42 1/2" [72 x 108 cm]) (Learn More) Kafe Fankoni (literally translates to "Fanconi Cafe"), the 1927 Mikhail Kapchinsky Russian child labor melodrama starring Vasily Kovrigin, N. Zubova, Igor Ivanov, Maxim Shtraukh, and Alexander Antonov. It is not really taught in schools today, but in the 1800s and into the early 1900s, children of poor immigrants in most countries were forced to work alongside their parents, often for 60 or more hours a week, and some worked from before sunrise to after sunset in warehouses, so they never saw the sun! It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only once before auctioned this Russian poster (and that same example has been reconsigned to us for this auction so it is still the only example we have ever auctioned!). Just like posters from Europe, posters from Russia from World War II and before are extremely rare, surely because of the lack of paper during World War II, which caused them to recycle almost all old paper, but Russian posters are even more rare, because so few posters made it out of Russia after World War II, due to the Cold War. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster has pretty slight creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges (and many are repaired with tape from the back). There are many inches of separation at the upper vertical foldline (where there is some paper loss) and that area is NOT repaired with tape from the back and that makes the poster somewhat fragile. After proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
