An Original 1939 Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Gaunt Stranger (released in the U.S. in 1939 as "The Phantom Strikes"), the 1938 Walter Forde English mystery crime thriller ("Edgar Wallace's greatest comedy thriller!"; "Edgar Wallace's greatest thriller"; "Adapted from Edgar Wallace's 'The Ringer'"; the now familiar story of an unknown villain who announces he is going to kill someone and that no one can stop him, and a police inspector and his surgeon assistant must figure out who it is, but everyone is a suspect) starring Sonnie Hale (billed as "Sonny Hale"), Wilfrid Lawson, Louise Henry, Alexander Knox, and Patricia Roc. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had paper loss at the crossfolds and paper loss in the vertical fold on the side of the woman's face, affecting her cheek, temple, and hair. There were also pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
