Date Sold 12/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Rough House Rosie, the 1927 Frank R. Strayer silent boxing sports romantic comedy ("Story by Nunnally Johnson"; about a girl who wants to be a Broadway actress, but fails, and then she tries to mix with rich society people, and that doesn't work out either, but she ends up in love with a champion boxer, and at one point, she performs in a dancing/boxing nightclub act, and she helps her boyfriend win the championship by distracting his opponent with her sexy eyes!) starring Clara Bow (in the title role as Rosie O'Reilly), Reed Howes, Arthur Housman (as professional gambler "Kid Farrell"), Doris Hill, Douglas Gilmore, and John Miljan. Note that Clara Bow was the most famous "flapper girl" of the mid to late 1920s (she became known as "The It Girl" after the character she played based on the popular novel by Elinor Glyn). She had a major role in Wings, and was Paramount's biggest star at that time. But she had a notorious private life and seemingly "settled down" when she married cowboy star Rex Bell in 1931 (she had two children and she retired from movies), but sadly in 1949 she went into a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt (she had had psychiatric issues for quite some time) and she was released but never returned to her family, and lived alone until her death in 1965. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we never before auctioned this insert, and posters of any kind from this movie are extremely rare (and the one-sheet, which we have auctioned, has a blank space at the bottom, so many collectors would much prefer this great insert)! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had the bottom 2" trimmed off, below Reed Howes' credit. It had some pinholes around the edges of the rest of the poster, with a pinhole in the bottom of the "O" of "BOW". There was paper loss in the bottom of Bow's foot by the "W", with some stains in her legs, but not in the rest of her body or her face. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking (depending on how you weigh the loss of the bottom credits described above). A really talented restorer performed an excellent job of restoration, and I would think that almost every person who viewed the poster, even close up, would not realize that the bottom credits area was replaced, or that it has had the other restoration it has had. It will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall, but bear in mind the restoration it has had. Learn More about condition grades
