An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 7 1/4" x 10" [18 x 25 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More)

The Prodigal Judge, the 1922 Edward Jose silent family relationship kidnapping romantic melodrama ("Adapted from the world-famous novel by Vaughn Kester"; a wild story about a judge and former member of Congress in 1830, who returns to his home in North Carolina, and discovers that his wife has taken his child and run off with another man; that causes the man to search for his missing son, and he is reduced to becoming a hobo, and travels with a fellow hobo; they finally locate the missing wife and son, and it turns out they were actually kidnapped, and after many adventures, the judge challenges the kidnapper to a duel, and his best friend hobo takes his place, and is killed in the duel, after which the judge shoots the kidnapper, and he regains his lost fortune!) starring Jean Paige, Ernest Torrence (as the hobo best friend of the judge), Macklyn Arbuckle (in the title role as Judge Slocum Price), Earle Foxe, Arthur Edmund Carewe, Horace Braham, and Charles Kent. There is a major oddity about this movie! The actor who plays the title role and appears to be the actual star of the movie is Macklyn Arbuckle (see below for more on him). But the only movie advertising we have seen on this movie shows Ernest Torrence being billed above the title, and Macklyn Arbuckle is barely pictured! Torrence was a far bigger name in movies at this time, and he does play an important role, but it still seems very odd that the movie would be presented in this way! Note that star Macklyn Arbuckle was a cousin of Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle. He was mainly a stage actor who only appeared in 18 movies. He was very successful on the stage, and in one of his greatest stage successes, "The Roundup", the phrase was coined "Nobody loves a fat man", and when a film was made of the play, Fatty Arbuckle played the lead, and that tagline was used on the one-sheet. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
