An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 11" [20 x 28 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Jerry the Giant, the 1926 Lesley Selander & Mark Sandrich silent circus animal comedy short ("A William Fox Animal Comedy featuring the wonder child of the screen") starring Jerry Madden (in the title role as Jerry and billed as "The wonder child of the screen"), Frank J. Coleman, George Davis, Harry Cornell, Frank Madden, and Pal the Dog. Note that Jerry Madden had a small part in a 1925 movie, and then starred in "Jerry the Giant", a William Fox comedy short. He made a total of five of these shorts between 1926 and 1927, when Madden was between 3 and 4 years old. He also co-starred with Tom Mix in a 1927 movie! We don't know why Madden had this nickname, but we do know that as he became an older boy, he only had minor parts, and he had six roles in the 1930s, before he left movies. However, he lived all the way until 2009, when he passed away at the age of 85. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Important Added Info: Note that this key book still was found together with a group of 23 other key book stills, all from the mid 1920s (and we are auctioning the other 23 in separate auctions). All were used by a company in the 1930s that leased these films to individuals to show them at private events. The title of the movie, the number of reels, and the rental price is written in the bottom border of almost all of these key book stills (see our images). This is a great opportunity to purchase key book stills from 1920s movies where it is very difficult to find even a regular still! Also note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic.
