An Original Vintage Newspaper (measures 17" x 21" [43 x 53 cm]; 10 pages) (Learn More) Lon Chaney, Sr. was perhaps the greatest star of the 1920s. Surprisingly, he had minor roles for many years before becoming a major star in the late 1910s, when he became Universal's leading actor. His greatest roles were in silent horror classics. Some of his movies include: He Who Gets Slapped, Laugh Clown Laugh, The Unknown, Tell It to the Marines, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, London After Midnight, The Phantom of the Opera, and the Penalty. He only made one sound movie, The Unholy Three, which was a remake of his own silent version, and then sadly, he passed away in 1930 at the age of 47 from throat cancer (apparently just before he could play the starring role in "Dracula"!) Important Added Info: This is a 10-page newspaper section that was removed from a bound volume of issues of the Springfield Missouri Leader newspaper. The cover story of this issue is about legendary silent star Lon Chaney's passing, at the height of his fame (and when he was about to star in Dracula!). Note that many years ago, our consignor was at a newspaper that was disposing of their bound copies of very old newspapers. He had just a short time to go through and remove some that were of interest to him, and they were mostly ones that dealt with the death of major stars or of major events. He has consigned three newspapers he removed from bound volumes (one of them has four different newspapers within that auction), and we are currently auctioning them in three different auctions. We have only photographed portions of each paper, but of course, they are fascinating reading, and they have many really cool vintage ads as well! Note that this newspaper could not possibly be rolled, and it must be sent in a large flat package that measures approximately 20" x 26", so bear this added expense in mind before bidding on it. Condition: good to very good. The newspaper was removed from a bound volume and is somewhat fragile. It has tiny paper loss down the left and tiny holes where it was bound into the bound volume. It is currently stored in a mylar sleeve and will be sent to the winning bidder that way in a large flat package. Learn More about condition grades
