An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Zane Grey's Thunder Mountain, the 1935 David Howard gold mining cowboy western romantic melodrama (based on the story by Zane Grey; about a pair of cowboys who find a gold mine in "Thunder Mountain", but have no money to develop it; one of them rescues a girl on a stagecoach and her grateful father agrees to finance them, and on the way back, the girl pretends to fall in love with one of the cowboys, thinking he is about to be very rich; but when he gets there, he finds that a bad man has stolen the claim and started a town, and everyone turns on him, including the girl, but luckily, a pretty bar girl, who is secretly in love with him, sticks by him, and he ends up in a climactic shootout with the bad guy on the mountain where the gold is) starring George O'Brien, Barbara Fritchie, Frances Grant, Morgan Wallace, and George 'Gabby' Hayes. Note that there is an oddity about this movie! It was released in September of 1935, and it says "A FOX RELEASE" on the posters, but Fox had merged with 20th Century Pictures to form 20th Century-Fox in May of 1935. The only thing we can speculate is that this movie was completed before May, but was held on the shelf for several months, and that they had already printed posters for it and were too cheap to print new ones! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1935 first release movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. Perhaps this is because the movie was given a very quick re-release in 1939. We have never auctioned a single first release movie poster (except for an insert) from this movie until we received this three-sheet! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss on parts of several folds and pinholes, tears, and stains around the edges. It also had some water staining scattered throughout, but the staining was fairly light within the image. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, and the person who backed it performed restoration to the folds, but they mostly left alone the light water staining scattered throughout, because, as we said, it is not that noticeable or distracting. Please look at our super-sized image and read the above before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
