An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #13 (Passengers to Doom) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Dick Tracy Returns, the 1938 John English & William Witney detective crime mystery serial ("A Republic Serial in 15 Smashing Chapters"; "Based on Cartoon Strip by Chester Gould") starring Ralph Byrd (in the title role as Dick Tracy), Lynne Roberts, Charles Middleton, Jerry Tucker, Lee Ford, and John Merton. Note that this was the second Dick Tracy movie! It is surprising that it took six years for it to reach the screen in 1937's "Dick Tracy", but once it did, it proved very popular and was followed by three more serials over the next four years, and then after a four year break, the first Dick Tracy feature film was released, which again proved extremely popular, and there were three sequels to that. There were animated cartoons on TV in the 1950s and in 1990, Warren Beatty made a live action movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that one-sheets from this serial are incredibly rare. We have only auctioned one from any of the chapters, and that was 17 years ago, in our great auction of serial one-sheets called "To Be Continued", which came from a collector who obtained them in the 1930s! Now we have been consigned one other chapter one-sheet, with great Chester Gould art, and we hope it won't be 17 more years until we are consigned another! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The entire poster had darkened. It had small paper loss at the crossfolds and some small tears, separation, and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds, with pinholes and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, and the restorer did not address the darkening in the poster.
