eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result f025 CHARLIE CHAN IN RIO movie lobby card '41 Sidney Toler finds clue! Date Sold 2/7/2006Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Rio, the 1941 Harry Lachman South America Rio De Janeiro Brazil Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("It's Chan's most spine-tingling mystery!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Mary Beth Hughes, Cobina Wright Jr., Ted North, Victor Jory, Harold Huber, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan), Richard Derr, Jacqueline Dalya, Kay Linaker, and Iris Wong. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that the lobby card offered in this auction is one of eleven different Charlie Chan lobby cards (from eleven different movies!) that we are selling this week on eBay, in eleven separate auctions! Not only does every card feature Chan, but most have close images of him! Best of all, all of the cards are in nice condition (several are near perfect), and none of the cards have the slightest restoration of any kind (not a single piece of tape anywhere on any card)! Condition: fine. There is a pair of staple holes in the center of the top blank border and a tiny pair of staple holes in the lower middle of the image (in Toler's jacket). There are a couple of faint scuff marks near the staple. Other than the above minor defects, the card is in really wonderful condition! Learn More about condition grades
