An Undated (probably 1930s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Star Packer, the 1934 Robert N. Bradbury (billed as "R.N. Bradbury") cowboy western ("A whirlwind of action in a tornado of trouble! - The sensational western star shows the bad men of the West what fightin' means.") starring John Wayne, Verna Hillie, George 'Gabby' Hayes, Yakima Canutt, and Billy Franey. Note that John Wayne's horse in his First National movies was "Duke", but when he switched to Lone Star, his horse was "Starlight" (but unlike Duke, Starlight was not credited). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this 1930s re-release one-sheet, and that was 16 years ago. Note that we feel pretty certain that this is a re-release from between 1934 and 1936, because there is a different poster with a Tooker Litho symbol from this movie that we think is the 1934 poster, and in 1937, these Lone Star movies were first re-released by Monogram, so this predates that. An advanced collector suggests that it may have been printed by a different company altogether, because there are quite a few differences between this poster and the studio releases. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the top crossfold and tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds. It had some creases, small tears, and fine surface paper loss on parts of many folds. It had pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone backed the poster and performed restoration to the defects in the top half, and then stopped, for unknown reasons. It was backed pretty well, and certainly, another restorer could finish the restoration without re-backing the poster, but bear the above in mind before bidding on this.
