An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Deluxe 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Merle Oberon was an Indian-born English actress from the 1920s to the 1970s. She was officially born to Welsh and Sri Lankan parents, though her biological father's never been identified, and she was raised thinking her mother was her sister, as she was only 12 years older than Merle! She lived in India until she was 17, when she moved to London. She is probably best remembered for her role as Cathy in Wuthering Heights. Some of her other movies include: The Dark Angel (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), The Divorce of Lady X, These Three, and The Private Life of Henry VIII. Merle passed away in 1979 at the age of 68. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Merle Oberon! Our consignor is a longtime collector who purchased this signed item from a reputable dealer. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock and it has an embossed photographer's stamp in one of the bottom corners. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: fair to good. The still has discolored, and the right half of the inscription and the autograph has faded considerably. When you look at it closely, you can still make it out. Of course, that portion of the autograph and inscription could be enhanced to make it look like it originally did, but this is a significant defect, so bear it in mind before bidding.
